A man from Lapland born in the internet era

Like many of us, Joni too had a childhood dream job, or rather, two of them. He dreamed of becoming a chef and an astronaut. His professional interest in information technology only arose later, towards the end of his teenage years. Computers always intrigued him, but Joni never thought he would work in the field. As a youngster, video games, the nascent social media platforms, and other online activities were more captivating. Unlike the older generation, who became familiar with technology in their twenties during the 1990s, Joni, representing the younger generation, was born into the internet age.

As a young student, Joni worked summer jobs and gained insight into working life as a flyer distributor, shelf stocker in a store, and telemarketer. Alongside his vocational school and polytechnic studies, Joni worked in the construction industry. After elementary school, Joni initially studied to become a plumber, but eventually realized that heavy physical work was not a lifelong career for him.

After the army, Joni spent a year in peacekeeping readiness, during which he had time to contemplate what he would study. Joni applied to the University of Helsinki to study philosophy but was not accepted. He needed to study something, and since logical reasoning has always been one of Joni’s strong points, he considered pursuing information technology at a polytechnic. He applied to Haaga-Helia, where he started studying information technology and graduated in 2020. Joni’s roots are deep in northern Lapland, but he has spent most of his life in Kouvola. He moved to Helsinki in 2017 when he started his studies at Haaga-Helia.

Before joining Ouro, Joni worked for a company called LigSciss Oy, where he completed his vocational school internship and thesis. After his studies, Joni was employed by this company, but the COVID-19 pandemic affected his working hours, and he had to look for work elsewhere. He found work at Ouro.

Joni finds it pleasant at Ouro because Ouro combines the advantages of both large and small companies and offers a perspective on business operations from different types and sizes of organizations.

“The best thing about Ouro is self-improvement and learning new things.”

Joni thinks the best thing is being able to decide how to develop one’s skills. Joni also believes that one of the advantages of a consulting firm is the variety of client projects available, both large and small, allowing for constant learning. Besides client work, Joni has been working on developing Ouro’s internal profile application, which collects various information about employees.

Joni finds it incredibly great that at Ouro he gets to participate in seminars and conferences, which according to him, he has never had to leave empty-handed. The most recent conference trip was to Zwolle, Netherlands, for CITCON.

Sports have always been part of Joni’s hobbies. In his free time, he practices bouldering, which is climbing without safety equipment at low heights, and he still spends a considerable amount of time on computer games. During winter, his activities also include downhill skiing.
